We understand that it is often difficult to know when a medical problem is truly an emergency, or simply an urgent medical issue.

Kona Family Health Center’s Urgent Care Clinic assists patients with illnesses or injuries that do not appear to be life –threatening, but also cannot wait until the next day or for a primary care provider to be seen. Following are typical urgent care conditions we treat at our walk-in clinic:

  • Accidents and falls
  • Sprains and broken bones
  • Back problems
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Cuts requiring stitches
  • High fever
  • Vomiting, diarrhea or dehydration
  • Severe sore throat or cough
  • Mild to moderate asthma

Providing easy access to quality health care – when you need it – is an important component of our commitment to excellent in patient care and satisfaction. We are dedicated to ensuring that patients with urgent medical needs are able to receive the highest quality medical expertise during the day, night, weekend, or most holidays.

Urgent care is substitute for an emergency condition that can permanently impair or endanger the life of an individual. Dial 911 immediately for a medical problem that appears to be life-threatening.

Some examples of conditions that require emergency medical care include:

  • Severe chest pain or difficulty breathing
  • Compound fracture (bone protrudes through skin)
  • Convulsions, seizures or loss of consciousness
  • Fever in newborn (less than 3 months old)
  • Heavy, uncontrollable bleeding
  • Deep knife wounds or gunshot wounds
  • Moderate to severe burns
  • Poisoning
  • Serious head, neck or back injury
  • Pregnancy-related problems
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Chest pain lasting longer than two minutes
  • Loss of vision, sudden numbness, weakness, slurred speech, or confusion
  • Suicidal or homicidal feelings
